How does one get wild asparagus? Does a little old lady go out and collect them to sell in the market or are they farmed, in which case they wouldn't be wild anymore, would they? Please advise. This is a question of great social and political import.
They are picked out in the wild (by little old ladies or - as in this case - their husband) and are either given out to neighbours and friends or sold on the market.
My grandmother liked to gather 'šparoge' during her almost daily walks on the outskirts of Pula, Croatia - they were not that numerous. I don't recall tasting it back then.

Looks artistic but totally natural. And delicious.
That's the way it's done here as well - not asparagus, but berries and chanterelles - in season.
They look wild, in their refusal to lie in orderly rows.
I'm lucky enough to be able to buy this sometimes in our local grocery store.
