Could it be that the monsters are on both sides of the door, one alerting us to the other? I like this G K Chesterton quote. "Fairy tales are more than true, not because they tell us dragons are real, but because they tell us dragons can be defeated."

Bug: Glad you like the whole package. This blog is dedicated to images rather than words (words go on my LiveJournal) so I have to be doubly creative to post something.
Ish : You could be on to something, and our animal senses would warn us of the sibbling on the other side (my cats seems to be able to do that all the time).
