X for Xenoglossy

Definition
Hint: I never actually learned Italian, yet read it and speak it every day.

Happy Next Year.

Xenoglossy is a beautiful word but what does it mean? I cannot find it in my dictionary. Xeno is foreign, but glossy ??
Anyway I also love books, but I want to be able to read them in a language I have learnt. I wish you a very happy new year or ,as we Dutch say:" Gelukkig Nieuw Jaar!"

Very intriguing post, thanks for all the insight!

That is very clever of you - the word, your skill with Italian (I think only kids learn a language that way), and showing the books.
I came by to wish you a Happy Present Year & the books sucked me in. Looks like this is just the 'B's. I realized that I have read very, very few Itallian authors. & I really think you cannot know much about the people if you haven't read their lit. So what 5-10 authors/books would you recommend? Looks like a lot of Benni on the shelf.

Alessandro Baricco (but you can see that), in particular Oceano Mare.
Niccolò Ammaniti
Umberto Eco (If you've never read The Name of the Rose, that is one of the best)
Carlo Lucarelli (crime)
Andrea Camilleri (Crime. In Sicilain dialect)
Margaret Mazzantini (Non ti Muovere. I know it has been traslated because a film was made of this book, called Don't move)

Thanks much. I have owned Name of the Rose for 20 years or more? & only saw the movie, now it's on my 2009 reading list along with some others you listed. I did read Foucault's Pendelum - it was a bit difficult.

PS One of my all time favorites is The Periodic Table by Primo Levi. Read most of his others too. I'm planning to read his bio also.
