Hard to tell as the tree is dead. But most of the trees in that area are oaks, so it might well be one too.
It is a beautiful tree. I love tree-architecture.
I've lately started taking home dead tree branches that I find... I want to do something artsy with them. Not 100% sure what though. I used dead cherry branches for my art display at VCON though. I have permission to cut dead branches off of a lovely azalea bush... and I am having problems finding the heart to cut the branches away from their roots.
